HarenCompanies selected as contractor
Friends of Englewood Theater has selected HarenCompanies as the general contractor for renovation of the historic Englewood Theater.
The employee-owned construction firm has extensive background working on buildings where historic tax credits are utilized.
Phase One of the theater renovations includes work on the building exterior, the lobby and the mezzanine level which will be developed as rentable space.
Phase One also includes restoring the iconic neon marquee. The Kansas City-based Element Ten has been selected to work on the historic marquee.

Work on Phase One should begin early in 2027 following approval of state 35% state preservation tax credits which will provide Phase I financing. The non-profit is the beneficiary of the Rotary Club of Independence Mardi Gras in February which will provide additional Phase 1 funds. A construction loan is also needed.
The overall plan is to reopen the theater as a “cultural hub” for Eastern Jackson County creating a 300-seat venue which can host live performances (music and theater), movies and other community events.
We are getting the work organized and working on financing. Watch our progress.
